Spec-ial Ops
Does that header even make sense? I give up! Come to this show. As I said last week, there is something dumb going on with live events whereby people don’t buy tickets until the last minute. I get it! I want to have the option to stay home too! But the good news is that this Retrospecs show is on a Sunday afternoon, so you can go out afterward for an earlybird dinner and be in bed by 8pm.
Retrospecs returns to the Elysian Theater in LA on Sunday, Sept 29, 2-4pm. You can get tickets to attend or stream live here. This cast is bananas.
Tatiana Maslany (Orphan Black; She-Hulk), and Brendan Hines (Locke & Key) join previously announced Paul Scheer (The League), Sherry Cola (Nobody Wants This), Ayden Mayeri (Mr. Throwback), Andrew Lopez (The Bear), and more!
We’re doing a Seinfeld by David Iserson (New Girl; The Spy Who Dumped Me) which he wrote when he was seventeen and which, for some reason, takes place during the Revolutionary War. It is genuinely funny.
We’re also reading a Succession spec by the notorious parody account creator Fake Carol Lombardini which takes place during last year’s WGA/SAG strikes and which features real Carol Lombardini, the studio CEOs, Fran Drescher, and dead-on character dialogue. It’s a really funny script.
You can get tickets to attend or stream live here.
You Can Hear the Ocean
In today’s Writers Panel pod, Sherman Payne (creator, Emperor of Ocean Park; Shameless) discusses how to tell a great story, the different kinds of writers in TV, adaptation, what it takes to thrive as a TV writer, "prestidurals," and more.
