Fun New Ways to Get Me Paid and Get Stuff For Yourself Too
I’ll write about the WGA’s impending negotiation deadline with the AMPTP later this week, and I’m also talking with the nice folks at the Guild about offering up weekly, short updates from them and other folks affected by this negotiation and possible strike. That’ll all come out via the podcast, which, please support by becoming a paid subscriber above.
In the meantime, I’m hammering away at the last-minutest possible pitch this week, and also trying to rid my office of some of the fun stuff I found in my parents’ attic when I was home in February. I’ve finally put a few offerings of toys up on ebay, and I’m hoping to squirrel away the proceeds from these auctions to make another short film for slightly more than zero dollars.
I’ve got one some Star Wars toys all bundled together here. Bunch of Phantom Menace figures still in the packaging and some loose A New Hope guys (from 1998), along with an X-Wing in great condition and some other odds and ends. I just want them to go to a good home with kids who will play with them! Or a fan who will love them!
And here I put a bunch of TV/movie “toys for grown-ups.” X-Files, Planet of the Apes, Buffy, that kind of thing. If nothing else, please go read my descriptions, because I had a lot of fun writing them.
I’ll be adding some more stuff later this week too.
I’m also teaching another introductory TV pilot class via Script Anatomy, starting May 7 and running for 5 sessions (skipping over holidays, so it goes until June 25). “Televisionary” is a good class that covers the basics of TV script writing. I had such a terrific group when I did the class in Febraury that I’m chasing that experience! If you read this newsletter, then you’re probably no dummy, so I hope you’ll consider joining the class. You come out of it with a solid outline.
I’m also teaching another Draft Intensive, starting July 9. These sell out fast, so if you want to take your outline to draft, sign up for that class ASAP. I ended up adding a section section of it this month to accommodate my Televisionary students, but even then, there was a pretty lengthy waitlist. This one is three sessions, every other week. It’s really fun and functions more like a writers’ room.
Hope to see lots of you in these classes! They’ve been really fun and inspiring for me, and I think I’m not too bad at giving feedback and deadlines!
Thanks, as always, for the continued support. If this week’s pitch prep doesn’t kill me, I’ll get you a proper newsletter at the end of the week!
