I truly believe that writing is a craft that can be learned, like woodwork or ceramics. Part of why I started The Writers Panel podcast was to learn that craft. After a decade of doing the podcast and nearly two decades of writing professionally, I feel I can impart some of what I’ve learned to you.

The Writers Panel has always been about the business and craft of writing. Sometimes the former can be hard to keep up with. I’ll talk about that monthly in this newsletter, with assessments of industry trends as well as “best practices” for up-and-coming writers.

Lucky for us, the craft has changed very little in 2000 years. Lessons from Damon Lindelof and Jane Espenson a decade ago are as valuable as lessons from Plato in 330 BC. (“As” valuable? For our purposes, sure). So, the main thrust of the newsletter will be to synthesize ideas about craft (and business) that have emerged time and time again on the podcast.

Whether you’re new to writing or a practiced expert, I’m confident that in sharing my experiences and synthesizing ideas that have come up in The Writers Panel’s conversations with over 2000 professional writers, you’ll find instruction and inspiration.
